Tabet DiVito & Rothstein client March For Our Lives Foundation (MFOL), a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the nation’s gun violence epidemic, recently sought leave to appear as amicus curiae in support of the City of Highland Park’s effort to defend the constitutionality of its assault weapon and high-capacity magazine ban in federal court. The lawsuit is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and it is captioned Goldman, et al. v. City of Highland Park, Illinois, No. 22-cv-4774.

On January 30, 2023, the Court granted MFOL’s motion for leave, allowing MFOL to file a brief in opposition to the plaintiffs’ request that the Court enjoin the City’s enforcement of the Ordinance during the pendency of the lawsuit. Leveraging MFOL’s experience and expertise, the brief’s novel approach marshals first-hand accounts from survivors of the mass shooting at Highland Park’s Fourth of July parade in 2022 to demonstrate to the Court the serious harm that will result were the plaintiffs’ motion granted.

TDR attorneys Caesar A. Tabet, Jordan E. Wilkow, and Nikki R. Marcotte authored the brief.
